Hi everyone.
I`m reading Moby Dick (Herman Melville), and in the very first page appears definitions of whale in differents languages.
KETOS, Greek.
CETUS, Latin.
WHOEL, Anglo-Saxon.
HVALT, Danish.
WAL, Dutch.
HWAL, Swedish.
WHALE, Icelandic.
WHALE, English.
BALEINE, French.
BALLENA, Spanish.
PEKEE-NUEE-NUEE, Fegee.
PEKEE-NUEE-NUEE, Erromangoan.
I having problems with the word WAL in dutch, in many online dutch to english dictionaries does not appears as a Whale, has a different meaning.
Could be this an ancient word or something, I would apreciate if you can give me some light in this matter.
